Ph.D. Fellowships

Faculty members at the Viterbi School may nominate their Ph.D. students who are US Citizens or permanent residents for a one year fellowship. Upon satisfactory progress the fellowship may be renewed for another year. The Ph.D. students nominated must be at the 2nd or 3rd year of studies and must have passed the Ph.D. screening exams.

The focus areas of interest include:

  • Unconventional geothermal – open and closed loop systems.
  • Novel carbon conversion to valuable products (CO2 and CH4 utilization through biological pathways) are of interest.
  • Transformational technology for reducing carbon footprint of O/G operations and normally unattended facilities.

Nominations from the faculty is a one page writeup about the student, student status in terms of the screening exam and research focus area. A summary report including a list of any publications from the project is due on May 1st, 2023.
